Petition and Subsequent Remission of the banishment sentence of William Hallett, 1656

In 1656, William Hallett (b.1616) was appointed Sheriff of Flushing by Peter Stuyvesant. Later that same year, he was deposed, fined and imprisoned by Stuyvesant for entertaining Rev. William Wickenden of Rhode Island at his home, allowing him to perform services and distribute the sacrament. This is a transcription of William’s petition and subsequent remission of the sentence.
